day 02: Your least favorite song
least favorite as in from all the songs i like the one i like the least? least favorite as in from all my favorites which one is on the bottom? least favorite as in a song i do not like? if that's the case i refuse your ambiguous definitions meme! there is no way in hell i'm going to post my heart will go on in this journal!
i'm choosing my least favorite of all my favorite songs.
coming up with a list of favorite songs from multiple, often disparate, genres and narrowing it down to the top 25 took forever, and yes i am crazy but never fear, i manage it well most days! after this rather thorough cull, it is decided. my least favorite song is fireworks by animal collective. there's not much i can say about animal collective. you either like them or you hate them as the sonic explosion of awesome, innovation, strange, and repetition isn't for everyone. but i heard who could win a rabbit and was hit hard. they are for me.

Date: 2010-08-25 07:16 pm (UTC)Sergio veered on his path to the kitchen back towards his laptop. He laughed realizing the change but Fernando sounded so excited, elated, he couldn't help but do as he was told.
Settling the phone between his ear and shoulder, Sergio pecked at the keyboard with five fingers and a thumb and then clicked on the latest email which said "LISTEN TO THIS!!!!1!!!1!"
"All capital letters?"
"You are going to flip. This changed my life."
Gmail allowed music to be previewed before downloading and Sergio considered it to be the best thing to happen to his relationship between himself and Fernando's taste in music. He clicked play and sat back on the couch. Then he sat up. Then, after a minute thirty, he frowned.
"This changed you life?"
"Yes, hold on, let me send you the lyrics."
"No, I understand them."
"No you don't, hold on."
"Fernando," Sergio began, frown deepening. "This is classified as music?"
"Yes."
"I don't like it."
Fernando's gasp sounded pained. "You haven't even finished it yet."
"Well--" Sergio said, softening because he hadn't but primal screams are something he'd rather drag out of people, not set to music.
"I'm sending you their albums."
"No."
"Listen to them, Sese, for me, please."
"Fernando, no. I am not going to."

Of course he listens to this horrible music, this Animal Collective, three entire albums and an EP of remixes and b-sides. He's soft for everyone but especially Fernando whose disappointment and ruined joy he could feel radiating from across the land and waters separating them. He could have lied perhaps, told Fernando that he did when he didn't, but then he'd have to suffer through the inevitable questioning test. Fernando was very sensitive when it came to sharing any part of himself and rejection or worse, no acknowledgment at all hurt him deeply.
The strange not music did nothing to him on the first listen. But he put the music on his ipod anyway and startled when a song popped up while he drove to the Valdebebas one morning and found he didn't want to change the song. His thumb tapped on the steering wheel, and Sergio made note of the title.
He found a mindless rhythm there, a layering of sounds that did sound primal--his first thoughts were true--but there were other things he did enjoy. Nonsense lyrics (he read through the list Fernando translated for him and then searched for them in English to continue his studies), the handclaps, the fast pace.
He added a song to his running playlist for the next time he had to practice indoors. His trainer congratulated him afterward, water and towel waiting for him at the door.
"The length of your stride was perfect," he said. "And you increased your pace's speed and consistency."
Sergio raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

Fernando's legs bent into his chest and his mouth opened in a begging moan. Sergio cupped his cheek, wiped the sweat and tears stinging his eyes. His hips swung steady in a pounding rhythm, a concentrated metronome of pleasure.
"Oh my god," Fernando moaned. "Oh my god, Sese. What? Oh, I'm." His hands clenched tight at Sergio's shoulders, body arching into the next quick thrusts, and then he's coming, broad stripes painted across his stomach, skimming up to his chest and neck.
Sergio stroked him through it, eyes narrowed down on the way Fernando looked in his hands, the way his body struggled against the urge to relax after completion, as if Fernando needed to stay on the precipice forever; flushed cheeked, tense muscles, mouth swollen for kisses.
"Mm," Fernando sighed into Sergio's mouth and sighed as his body was pet until it shone wet. Sergio was still and hard inside him and he captured Sergio's neck with the crook of his elbow to bring him down into another long kiss. "What was that?"
Sergio grinned. "Fireworks," he whispered and started rocking again.
