my frustration and sadness has not been as high since the champions league match of which i cannot speak.

what the hell just happened.

beyond the losing, i mean. just. what happened?

firstly, while i support liverpool i am by no means a fan and the club is not deeply rooted in me. i don't have the connection and the recent announcement of his transfer request did not send a visceral reaction through me. i think it is probably a mistake and would be one of the many who would argue against it, but well, how could i? i don't make millions of dollars a year to make hundreds of millions of people happy while doing what i love so my basis of belief is so far away from nando's reality it's ridiculous. the closest i could come, without relying on my considerable experience as a sister of an athlete and friend of a friend to a few pros, is this. say you were injured on the job, recovered, then went back to work only to find out the business was trying to get out of paying your insurance. it doesn't really matter that the business has new owners, the experience was enough to sour you to a future. it doesn't quite fit, i know, but in any case, i don't know if i would want to continue on either.

now i have to go write a letter of intent and prep my resume.

life is really not cool right now.

As someone who's going for a degree in English, I feel you. Oh how I feel you. Isn't it something like 50% of new PhDs don't get college level jobs?

I know the horror of this question, but do you have an area of focus yet?

i can say asia, and then narrow it down to a strong interest in pre-restoration japan and post war literature, but my school didn't actually have an asian studies program. everything i did focused more on china (which i thoroughly enjoyed, don't get me wrong!) and even then there wasn't enough of it. the courses i took were a hodge podge of exploratory courses that focused on the mediterranean (rome, greece, ancient persia) and modern china.

so not at all.

Cool! I've taken some history courses on Japan and I'm taking an anthropology course on Japan this semester. It's fun times, there's something about Japan that makes it enjoyable to study. Is there a particular reason why pre-restoration Japan?

But haha I feel you again! People ask me what my area of focus is and I go "... British literature?" which is basically a cop-out, but OTOH, eliminates the literature of the other 99% of the world, so it's something. I find myself returning again and again to feminism and disability studies though, so we'll see if one of those ends up being a thing.

Are you a senior then? And do you have any idea what schools you are applying to? Sorry for being so nosy, but this topic is one that's currently very much on my mind, hahah. Oh god what happens after I graduate!/how can I grovel enough so that a PhD program will accept meeee? Feel free to ignore my ramblings! X3
