so i fall into the camp that says the ending and the top don't really matter because inception took place. it no longer matters to cobb whether he dreams or if he is awake and this is shown because he left the top on the table.

the world is his own.

the story ended the moment cobb walked away. the image of the top spinning and the sound of the top wobbling is for the audience.

i suppose it goes back to the idea being the most dangerous parasite.

I like that theory! Almost as much as I like the one where they use the lack of Cobb's wedding ring as a signal that he's in the real world (bc in the dream he's always wearing it and when they're awake, he's not).
